Summer is officially here, and you know what that means: BBQ season! What could be better than an afternoon in the sun with burgers on the grill while you float around the pool in a floppy sun hat? At KKDL, that just might be our version of heaven.
What makes this particular event even better is when you use ingredients that you believe in, from people who stand behind their work. Whether we’re grilling chicken or burgers, hot dogs or porkchops, we always reach for Burgess Brothers. Not only is the brand local and crafted to reflect our Sacramento hometown, but it was created by some of our favorite guys– John + Matt Burgess.
Both veterans in public service, the twins first found their love of culinary creations through their mother and grandmother’s cooking. Being taught to love and appreciate food by examining its look, texture, and taste, the two men grew up with a fondness for zesty flavors and mouthwatering appeal. They used their tasting talents to open up a local restaurant, Burgess Brothers BBQ & Burgers, where their secret sauce became a cult favorite.
While the brothers quickly climbed the BBQ ranks, they became focused on developing their dishes into a brand of its own. Their sauces, referred to as Burgess Brothers BBQ sauce, feature a sweet and distinctive flavor to match its rich dark color. While you can find amazing flavor in their BBQ sauce, what you won’t find are added preservatives and tons of sugar or sodium (whoo!).
The Burgess Brothers’ BBQ sauce can be found stocked on the shelves of Walmart, SaveMart, Sam’s Club, Sacramento’s favorite Taylor’s Market and Corti Brothers, as well as Otos Market. They’ll soon be lining the shelves of our favorite stop, Nugget, too! A portion of the sales from the brothers’ sauce will be donated to the Firefighter’s Burn Institute and Wounded Warriors.
Should you be interested in the current and future endeavors of the Burgess Brothers, we have some juicy tidbits for you! The two have been working on a new product to marry perfectly with their already famous BBQ sauce: cornbread! We absolutely cannot wait to start stocking up on the mix and add them to our favorite summer dishes. As well as new culinary adventures, the two are exploring new business beyond their BBQ expertise. Whatever next steps are for the dynamic duo, we’re sure it’s going to be just as exciting + delicious as their past projects!
