Designer Escape: Celebrating in Style in Vancouver, BC

There’s something about Vancouver that invites you to slow down, take in the view, and celebrate the beauty of design in every detail.

After a summer of hammers, hardware, and home transformation (hello, garage-turned-cottage ADU!), my husband decided it was time to whisk me away—birthday style! With no agenda other than relaxation, adventure, inspiration, and a touch of celebration, here’s what made the beautiful city of Vancouver the perfect Designer Escape.

Where We Stayed

Rosewood Hotel Georgia

Located in the heart of downtown, the Rosewood Hotel Georgia served up just the right blend of historic charm and modern elegance. From the moment we checked in, the design details were on full display—from the art deco touches to the impeccable service. Bonus points for the rooftop bar, where cocktails and skyline views offered the ultimate golden hour moment.

The View from Above (and All Around)

If you’re visiting Vancouver, book the seaplane. Trust me. Gliding above the city’s mountains, coastlines, and glittering skyline was unforgettable—an aerial mood board of natural inspiration.

On the ground, we strolled Gastown’s cobblestone streets and design-forward boutiques before soaking in the quiet of Stanley Park. The contrast between urban edge and lush green space made for the perfect design study in balance. And the aqua bus from Granville Island? Pure charm on the water.

While we didn’t make it to Victoria this time, we’ve already promised ourselves a return visit—complete with afternoon tea at the iconic Fairmont Empress.

A Soundtrack to Remember

As if the trip didn’t already feel magical, we scored tickets to see Laufey live at Rogers Arena. Her modern jazz-meets-classical sound wrapped the night in a dreamy kind of elegance.

It’s safe to say that experience is now part of our personal highlight reel.

Designing Through Dining

From the plating to the spaces, Vancouver’s restaurants turned every meal into an experience.

Acquafarina’s moody interiors and Italian refinement, MIKU’s sushi with a view, Hawksworth’s artful Canadian cuisine, and the timeless French charm of Le Crocodile—each one was a feast for all the senses. Design and flavor? That’s my kind of pairing.

This birthday escape reminded me that great design isn’t just something we create—it’s something we live.

Whether you’re sky-high in a seaplane or sipping wine by a rooftop firepit, it’s the thoughtful layers of a well-curated experience that make the memories linger. Vancouver delivered that in spades.

Until the next escape…

XO, Kerrie
