Last month, Sacramento State Liberal Studies Student, Cori Schmitz, contacted the crew at Kerrie Kelly Design Lab telling us of the grant she had received to hold a Career Day at Main Elementary School. As Treasurer of the Sac State Student California Teachers Association on campus, Cori and team would be hosting a career fair for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders and wanted an interior designer included in the various career volunteers. Our team was up for the challenge!
They requested us to show a demonstration and to share our career details with the students. This is where we choose to partner with our industry pals at Sherwin Williams. What better way to share what we do than to get the students excited about color and the ability paint has to transform a space?
Each student selected their favorite color and told us why they were drawn to it. They also discussed colors they found in their homes and in their favorite spaces.
Several students felt they would like to be interior designers or in the construction field—we liked the sound of that!
On campus, Main Elementary is building a much needed building for classrooms and another for a recreation center and multi-purpose room. To be a part of their school’s transformation, find out more information here. Go Panthers!
