It’s one thing to eat food at a restaurant that loves the food they make, it’s an entirely different experience to dine at a place where they respect each ingredient and the original recipes from which they came. You can taste the authenticity behind each bite and all of the nurturing that goes into creating the perfect sensory experience. From the moment we arrived at Dona Tomas, to the second we finished our last bite of food, we were treated to such an experience.
Dona Tomas, a Mexican restaurant in Oakland, California, is one of 10 restaurants owned by the same California group (with one of the sister sites actually down the street from us here in Sacramento). With a seasonally changing menu and a love and respect for Mexican food and culture, Dona Tomas is a culinary must-try for anyone who claims to love tangy margaritas and savory taco dishes.
What we love most about Dona Tomas is the staff’s sense of pride for their Mexican cuisine. Not only is it delicious, but truly a unique labor of love. Each recipe includes only the freshest, most sustainable local produce and proteins. Each chile, spice, and veggie is hand-selected by the chefs and prepared to mirror the same recipe that would be passed down generation to generation in a Mexican home. The dishes are fascinating in flavor, color, and texture, and come with a history lesson behind each one.
Be sure to visit their website, as well as their delicious sister restaurants for more unconventional, totally delicious and authentic eats!
