The fall season always makes us crave newness. Whether we’re standing in line at Starbucks waiting to sip our first PSL of the season, or we’re cashing in on a cute new coat for the chillier weather, fall is one of our favorite times to make a few changes and welcome all things fresh and new. This need for refreshment has spread to other facets of our world, too, including the way we view color. With the help of Sherwin Williams and their annual ColorMix seminar, we were able to peek at 2017’s pretty palettes, and boy are we ready! Read on for our analysis of the three new color schemes to consider: Noir, Holistic, and Intrepid.
In SW’s own design words, “We’re craving a refuge from urban streetlights and glowing screens, space to turn our gaze inward and recharge the spirit.” We don’t know about you, but we couldn’t agree more. While more and more of our personal and professional lives depend on our constant readiness at the push of a button on our phones and tablets, we can’t help but yearn for a bit of peace from it all. That’s why Noir has come at such a crucial time; it’s dark hues set a dramatic stage for sensuous luster, using rich, fruity hues and moody neutrals to complete the serene scene. We’re using Noir as a dark backdrop for a home office, an accent of glamour for a master bedroom, or as a dramatic painting perched above the mantle.
The design industry could not be more #obsessed with sustainability and transparency, which is totally exciting! While interior designers, product developers, and manufacturers turn to higher standards and fairer practices, the rest of the world is following suit. The Holistic palette, equipped with arctic neutrals, blush rose, and wild browns, reinforces our need for healing retreats and a more eco-friendly world. As our daily life starts to revolve more around experiences than ‘things’, so do our client projects. We’ll be using the Holistic hues on kitchen and bathroom walls and weaved in area rugs sprawled across living and dining room floors.
While we might not have much say in the social and political climate, we do have a say about our inner workings, starting with our own sense of self. Speaking volumes of the younger generations with independent and expressive personalities, the Intrepid palette offers the first step toward change. It’s energetic color palette is made up of fiery tones and vibrant coloration, lending a feisty spirit to a room’s design or just a single piece of furniture. We’re using Intrepid’s expressive hues on large pieces of furniture, like wingback chairs and sofas to make a bold statement this season.
Which color palette is most ‘you’? Are you moody and bold, like Noir? Neutral and experience-hungry like Holistic? Or re-inventive and full of life like Intrepid?
