For the past couple of years, I have admired a rustic white barn on the Ink House property in the Napa Valley. Every time I would come to town I would take a picture of that white barn. I must have over 20 shots on my phone at different times of the day, during the various seasons of the year.
For the same amount of time I have been working with my partners at Feizy Rugs on an outdoor rug line called the “Coastal Layers” collection. The collection celebrates our California lifestyle and how we value performance features in a product. The rugs are made of 100% PET, which means they are sustainable and can be hosed off for easy cleaning and high durability. That allows for kids, pets, and wine parties; allowing us to relax with the way we truly live in our homes. The team at Feizy has let my colorfully simplistic style feather into their already successful rug lines while celebrating their 45-years in business. The relationship with Feizy is one I truly treasure.
As my outdoor rug collection launched this January, we were in need of marketing to support it. When the marketing team at Feizy asked me how I would use the rugs and what I would like to capture to share with others about the product and lifestyle, the white barn immediately came to mind. You would think that snapping photos with the rugs would be so seamless and easy, when in fact, it takes a village.
From my KKDL team that provided their input into the designs of the ten-piece collection; to my husband who drove our ’86 Wagoneer filled to the brim with rugs to the shoot site; to my business neighbors at Article Consignment and my BFF and coworker Jill who helped pick outfits; and my dad who brought our family dog, Honey to the shoot (with plenty of treats in hand); not to mention Brian at the Ink House and Sara behind the camera lens, it takes a village. It takes all these people and several hours on an unusually cold and windy day to capture the shot that ultimately made the ad in Elle Décor’s inside the back cover of this April’s issue. For me, it’s a designer dream to be in the magazine – and I like that it’s a different way to have your work highlighted. It isn’t a room we designed, but an expression of my design style and the products our team was able to create a brand that we value. Thank you so much Feizy for investing in my vision for the Coastal Layers collection – I think we’ve captured it perfectly.
