Living in a home that was built in 1945 can get a little drafty. While a historic California Bungalow in the Fabulous Forties neighborhood of Sacramento is charming, it isn’t always efficient during the summer or winter months. Sound and temperature both equally contribute to the satisfaction factor of living in a historic home, so it is important to have certain efficiency elements in place including appropriate roofing, insulation, heating and air and, of course, windows.
After seven years of experiencing the heat of a California summer and the cool of its winter months in our East Sacramento home, we found it was time to replace our last item on the efficiency list—windows. With that, it was no doubt, that we would look to our valued partner Milgard in getting the job done.
We are so proud to have worked with Milgard Windows & Doors on this effort. From the #KKDL side of things, Milgard is a brand that we have used for countless projects. You’ve probably seen a Milgard truck driving around town at one point or another, but do you know much about the company? Milgard is based in Tacoma, WA and the brand offers a full line of vinyl, wood, fiberglass and aluminum windows and patio doors for builders, dealers, and homeowners alike. There are windows, frames, and finishes that fit every aesthetic and budget. At the onset of our project, we were thinking about replacing our windows with the Tuscany or Trinsic window series for our home.
We had our walkthrough with a Milgard sales specialist who not only presented all of our options and answered our questions, but measured our windows and had a discussion with our contractor. Their commitment to ensuring there was no margin of error when it came to our order did not go unrecognized! After weighing our options and having further discussions with our contractor, we decided to move forward with Tuscany.
About the Tuscany Series
The Tuscany Series by Milgard is a great option to give the look of a traditional wood window, but with the performance and elegance that you want. Milgard Tuscany Series windows and patio doors come with a Full Lifetime Warranty that includes Glass Breakage Coverage. The Milgard commitment to quality and customer care is why KKDL has been a champion for them and why we always share the benefit of selecting their windows and patio doors with our clients.
Some of Tuscany Series features are:
- SmartTouch Hardware for extra security
- Even sight lines with many options to customize
- An Energy Star package tailored to your region for an energy-efficient home, which was the main goal of ours
Once we made it final, we were eager to get the project started. The install day at our home went as smooth as can be: all windows fit perfectly, and before you knew it, it was as if we had moved. Who knew that such a small change to the windows and color of our home would make it feel brand new again?
The End Result
We are absolutely thrilled with the results. Now that summer is here, we are already feeling the “energy-efficient” effects of replacing our windows with ones from Milgard, especially the living room and in our office. The windows are sleek, let tons of light in, yet keep our home cool on those hot days in Sacramento. Now that the exterior of our home is painted to a crisp snowy white and navy blue, we are enjoying warm summer nights on our porch and in our backyard.
