It’s that time of year again—in fact my favorite time—the fall season has arrived and the announcement of the Color of the Year is upon us! The Sherwin-Williams global color and design team have researched and identified cultural trends that influence the way the world interacts with color. From those findings, the team has selected the strongest themes for the coming year and has officially selected the Color of the Year (COTY). This is the 11th year Sherwin-Williams has named an official Color of the Year. As a member of Sherwin-Williams Design Council I’m so excited to share the inside color scoop with you!
The 2021 Color of the Year selection is Urbane Bronze SW 7048. The theme of this year’s campaign is all about creating sanctuary spaces within our homes. One major realization homeowners had in response to COVID-19 is the importance of creating a home that provides stability and warmth. Urbane Bronze is a rich, dark brown with gray undertones that acts as an anchor – it makes us feel grounded, meditative and serene. Rooted in nature, this ultra-sophisticated hue is extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of spaces as a neutral or bold accent.
Interiors aren’t the only place that Urbane Bronze provides a lasting impact. Exteriors can also benefit from the use of Urbane Bronze as an accent for front doors, main body and trim color. A contrast of a bright white trim and rustic wood accents can create a sophisticated yet approachable exterior palette that is unique to the neighborhood. Landscape in shades of green or colorful flowers sing against the dramatic yet neutral scheme.
Undoubtedly refined, but never restrained, we recommend this striking hue for creating contrast, accenting architecture and providing visual interest to exteriors, bedrooms, living spaces and work from home areas, too.
