Recently we treated ourselves to a getaway in the heart of Oregon, where natural beauty meets culinary delights—and where my dad lives now. We were able to embark on a nature-inspired journey through the picturesque city of Bend, discovering hidden gems and indulging in exquisite dining experiences. From the Jackalope Grill’s innovative cuisine to the rustic charm of Hola! Restaurant, this destination has something to engage every traveler.
Our first stop is the renowned Jackalope Grill, a culinary haven where artistic dishes and exceptional flavors take center stage.
We were mesmerized by the chef’s creativity as they combine local ingredients to craft culinary masterpieces. From the visually stunning presentations to the tantalizing flavors, Jackalope Grill is an experience that will leave your taste buds dancing.
📍 Drake Park and Mirror Pond
One of Bend’s longest standing and best known parks is Drake Park and Mirror Pond. While we took a morning stroll, this popular downtown community gathering place hosts many events throughout the spring, summer and fall. Featuring a half mile of riverfront, acres of open lawn, an outdoor stage, small picnic tables, river access, trail connections and public art, it is a great spot to exercise and take in nature and residential architecture.
If you’re looking for a little road trip, Black Butte Ranch is a beautiful architectural and scenic visit. While we just visited for lunch, there’s an onsite spa, recreation center, two championship golf courses, five swimming pools, plus a myriad of activities such as hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

For another taste of Bend’s vibrant food scene, we also visited Bosa Food & Drink. This stylish eatery effortlessly blends modern design elements with an inviting atmosphere. For a little unwinding, we escaped the bustling city and retreated to the serene oasis of Sun River Resort, where nature’s beauty seamlessly blends with exceptional hospitality.
Nestled along the Deschutes River, this breathtaking destination offers a multitude of activities to satisfy your adventurous spirit. Explore the scenic trails, take a refreshing dip in the sparkling pools, or simply bask in the tranquility of a long bike ride to Benham Falls with lunch at Hola! Restaurant.
