Transform Your Home: Seven Easy Tips for a Tidier, More Stylish Space

Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with the Martha Stewart team about Things That Are Making Your Home Look Messier. As an interior designer, I know that sometimes the tiniest tweaks can make the biggest difference in how your space looks and feels.

If your home is feeling a bit cluttered or chaotic, don’t worry! Here are seven actionable tips to help you edit your space and achieve that polished, organized look we all crave.

1. Declutter Surfaces

First things first: let’s tackle those cluttered countertops, tables, and shelves. Clear off these surfaces and keep only essential items or a few carefully chosen decorative pieces. This simple step can make your space look instantly more organized and spacious.

2. Manage Cords and Cables

Nothing disrupts a clean look more than a tangle of cords and cables. Use cord organizers, clips, or even decorative boxes to hide and manage these necessary but unsightly items. Keeping cords out of sight will streamline your space and enhance its aesthetic appeal.

3. Store Items Out of Sight

Invest in stylish storage solutions like baskets, bins, and cabinets to keep everyday items out of view. Whether it’s toys, remote controls, or miscellaneous items, having designated storage helps maintain a tidy appearance and makes it easier to keep your home organized.

4. Embrace Minimalism

Less is often more when it comes to creating a serene and tidy environment. Evaluate your decor and furniture, and consider removing pieces that don’t serve a purpose or bring you joy. Embracing a minimalist approach can open up your space and make it feel more inviting.

5. Create Zones for Activities

Establish specific areas for different activities, such as a dedicated spot for keys and mail near the entrance or a cozy reading nook in the living room. By organizing your space into functional zones, you’ll reduce clutter and create a more efficient and visually appealing layout.

7. Regularly Purge and Refresh

Make it a habit to regularly go through your belongings and get rid of items you no longer need or use. This includes everything from clothing and kitchen gadgets to decor and furniture. Regular purging prevents clutter from building up and keeps your home feeling fresh and organized.

6. Pay Attention to Details

Small details can make a big difference in how tidy your home appears. Straighten cushions, fold throws neatly, and ensure that items like books and magazines are aligned properly. These minor adjustments can elevate the overall look of your space and make it feel more cohesive.

By implementing these seven tips, you’ll be well on your way to creating a beautifully edited space that feels both functional and stylish. And an added perk—a tidy home is not only more aesthetically pleasing but also promotes a sense of calm and well-being.
