Mayahuel Sacramento is a tequila museum, featuring a restaurant, bar, and lounge. At Mayahuel, you don’t just drink tequila, you experience tequila. And team KKDL did exactly that last Friday!
As one of six finalists, our Pina Basilio Cóctel, inspired by an old Sacramento Bee recipe, was featured in Mayahuel’s live mixology competition!
We made our drink {with behind the scenes assistance from dad and dear friend, Diana Burke} for over 60 attendees and for four judges including Mayahuel restaurateur, Ernesto Delgado.
The people’s vote put us in the top two contenders! And the judges’ vote ruled our place as runner up to bartender, Chad Brown. For an interior design firm, we thought our final spot was pretty good–you make the call and see our recipe below!
Pina Basilio Cóctel
3 chunks fresh pineapple
2 large basil leaves
2 parts tequila
1/2 part lime juice
3/4 part agave nectar
5 dashes bitters
1 basil leaf garnish
Muddle the pineapple and basil in a shaker. Add ice, tequila, lime juice, agave nectar and bitters and shake well. Strain over fresh ice in a Collins glass. Garnish with a basil leaf.
Special thanks to Michele Bessette who introduced us to the recipe and to all our friends and family who attended the event too–ole!
