The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), owned by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), just came off one of the most successful shows in its nearly 60-year history. The show was held last week in Las Vegas and was part of Design & Construction Week (DCW), which also recorded record-breaking attendance. “We expected a successful show based on the preliminary numbers, but we were blown away by the final attendance numbers for KBIS and Design & Construction Week. It was just incredible,” said Bill Darcy, Chief Executive Officer of NKBA, Bethlehem, PA. “Our goal when we created DCW with our partner, the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB), was to become the biggest trade show in North America… and, for now, we are.” And with that success, we were able to spot several trends that can be applied to your next home refresh.
Organic Textures
Additionally, a sense of modern biophilic design was present via wood grain, heavy texture and sustainable materials. Stacked stone, highly veined slabs and natural looking bricks and tiles took on a fresh new aesthetic through new color palettes and finish details.
Eldorado Stone introduced Rivenwood, a slim wood-look profile designed to expand upon the artistry and versatility of reclaimed barn wood applications in the modern era. Its rich surface details include authentic characteristics such as nails, breaks and knots, and each piece has been hand selected to embody the captivating combination of both traditional and modern textural touches. Also introduced was LoreioBrick, a long-format brick veneer profile that translates the simplicity and elegance of historic Roman architecture for contemporary spaces. LoreioBrick exhibits stunning visual character through its unique linear and slender cuts and is available in four evocative colorways.
Celebrating that heavy veining, Cosentino’s Designer Nina Magon joined forces with Cosentino to launch a new carbon neutral collection, Dekton Onirika. Named to evoke the idea of reality and dreams blurring, the collection’s eight marble-inspired patterns and finishes include Awake, Lucid, Somnia, Neural, Trance, Vigil, Daze and Morpheus.“This collection offers homeowners and designers a long-term surfacing solution with patterns that capture the depth, drama and movement of marble—without having to worry about maintaining natural stone,” says Patty Dominguez, vice president of architect and design sales for Cosentino North America. Trance is my favorite, reflecting hues of blue, creamy white and taupe.

And who could resist the smart features being introduced to elevate our lifestyle when at home? Heritage Aesthetic
With the 60-year Anniversary of the NKBA, 150th Anniversary celebration for Kohler and Cosentino North America’s 25-year Anniversary there was a sense of heritage on the show floor. Timeless design elements, moodier, creamier colors, rich heavily-grained wood tones and darker aged brass and titanium-like metal details provided a familiar, grounded feeling throughout the show floor.
Belwith Keeler’s Fuse collection harmonizes metal and wood with a modern fusion of precision in design. Inspired by classic modern furniture, clean lines highlight the angles and inset of wood within the design. The Fermata collection is reminiscent of fine instrument string, it is a harmony of quick flourishes and soft moments. The textural play strikes a grand note of transitional beauty in any home—a simple textured knob can elevate and quickly personify any space.
Sherwin-Williams’ ColorMix Forecast 2023 shared color palettes that span across the world’s cultures and historical timelines. In the mix, we see ancient reds, powdery pastels and tantalizing jewel tones—both loud-and-proud and understated. Hopeless romantics and lovers of period dramas will connect personally to the palette with hues. Other colors focus on an ever-changing ecosystem that pays tribute to the Earth and its balance. Words like “biophilia”, “organic minimalism” and “symbiosis” all describe the colors selected for the 2023 palette, among tranquility, sophistication and peace.
