When in Waco, you visit Magnolia. For those of our readers who don’t know the Joanna + Chip story, read all about their amazing design journey here. Because so many of our East Sacramento clients ask for their aesthetic (i.e. shiplap, distressed finishes, brass hardware), we thought we’d make the trip to Magnolia Market, Chip and Joanna’s center of design operations. While there we visited the bakery, silos, and garden, the many cogs that keep the Magnolia machine working. Keep reading for some of our favorite finds.
Travelling to Chip and Joanna’s design space, we had an idea of what we would find: a farmhouse-inspired aesthetic with a sprinkling of Texas pride via accessories, vintage signs, and lots of tourists packing the silos full of furniture, books, and ways to bring the Fixer Upper look home with them. Well, we were partially right– there were a lot of people there hoping to meet Chip and Joanna. What we were pleasantly surprised to find was a ton of inspiration to take back home to California with us.
From carefully curated vignettes filled with personalized cards, recipe books, baskets, and wallpaper, to Chip’s Corner, a rugged space within the silos offering masculine accessories and apparel for the husbands and boyfriends being pulled through the marketplace. We loved the way that every square inch of the space was thoughtfully designed– hand-picked textiles, paint samples, tiling and hardwood laid exactly as Joanna would on her show.
When traveling with the #KKDL crew, baked goods are always front of mind. Their on-site bakery, Silos Baking Co., is filled with Joanna’s personal recipes and hand-picked favorites. The selection of grab and go treats are perfect for a quick bite while perusing the silos, or for kicking back on the patio, admiring the beautifully decorated cafe corner. In addition, there are food trucks parked out back across the lawn. It was amazing to see the thought that went into the placement of each mobile restaurant– everything from the color of the awning to the font of the menus coordinated with the rest of the design hub.
While traveling in Waco, we were excited to encounter warm, sunny weather. To make the most of it, we visited the far corner of Magnolia Market to where the garden stood. Joanna’s vision was that the garden would be a space where the family can explore together and learn the lessons of the garden. Walking through the beautifully landscaped trees, shrubs, and flowers, you can feel the heart and soul that went into creating this stretch of greenery. Inside the little gardening shop were rows and rows of seeds, soil, and inspiring garden decor to help you create your own Magnolia-inspired garden. We might have purchased a few packs of seeds in hopes that our herb garden would flourish like Joanna’s.
