It’s grand #KKDL x Hestan Home kitchen reveal time! I can’t believe that we are finally sharing our dream kitchen renovation! While you may have seen glimpses of the kitchen progress on our Instagram stories, we have rounded-up all of the details from start to finish including countertops, paint colors, plumbing, hardware and of course, those beautiful Hestan appliances that started it all!
Let’s begin with our inspiration and how we decided on the appliances we did. Back in June when we selected our appliances, we shared our visit to Purcell Murray on the blog. Seeing the appliances live and in person confirmed our selections and gave us confidence to move forward with the other design elements for the renovation.
We knew we wanted our kitchen to be light, bright and highly functional so friends and family could effortlessly join us in the kitchen. While Hestan has 12-signature colors to choose from, the “Steeleto” (how cute is that!?!) aka stainless steel finish and its reflectivity spoke to us and complemented our planned blue and white scheme.
Light and bright also meant white countertops. Cosentino’s Statuario suede finished countertop is inspired by classic Italian Carrara marble, featuring a white surface with very soft, sparkling highlights in a shade of grey, ideal to visually tie back to the Steeleto choice.
Sherwin-Williams Salty Dog, SW 9177, and Snowbound, SW 7004, are our home’s signature colors, so it was no surprise that we featured them in our new renovation. We used Snowbound on the perimeter cabinetry, ceiling and walls and Salty Dog on the new double islands.
We also removed our banquette and replaced it with built-in cabinetry to house silverware and dishes. The blind corner of the new set up was taken next level with the addition of the Rev-a-Shelf Blind Corner Optimizer and Amerock Winsome 5” hardware in Antique Bronze.
So often we tell clients to confidently mix metals in their homes and we did the same here when selecting the Steeleto Hestan appliance finish and pairing it with antique bronze hardware, a Ralph Lauren antique brass light fixture and Brizo’s Odin Smarttouch Pull-Down Prep Faucets with Square Spout in Luxe Gold with Wooden Lever Handle.
Throughout the renovation process we also decided to refinish our floors, going from an orangey original finished oak from the late 1920’s to Minwax Copper Brown stain. This provided warmth and interest to the space. We also chose this color to re-skin and stain our original kitchen ceiling truss.
Further tying in the Steeleto appliance finish, we selected Signature Hardware’s Ortega 24” single undermount bowl for our main sink and the 15” for our prep sink. The square corners make for a sleek modern look and easy clean-up. Speaking of clean-up, I knew I would need a little power for support. That is where the ISE ¾ Horsepower Garbage Disposals came in for both sinks—this is something I recommend for every kitchen renovation.
Now that you have a “lay of the land” let’s dig in to our appliance details. Since we have had a chance to get acquainted with the new appliances, we really can speak to the function beyond our initial blog. The first appliance we installed was the cooktop, followed by the double ovens. One of the features with the double wall ovens that I love is that the top and middle racks fully extend and glide easily. On the day our double ovens were installed, I stayed up late and made our signature Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies and they baked so evenly!
When the double oven or cooktop is in use, these knobs are backlit which is not only beautiful but part of the thoughtful design that also provides safety.
Vinny and I have both used the CircuFlame™ center power burner to boil pasta and make his Sunday “gravy” red sauce. They weren’t kidding when they say it goes from zero to boil in no time—with 30,000 BTU’s, it’s no wonder that Chef Thomas Keller and top chefs around the country believe in Hestan, too!
While we are cooking, let’s chat about the microwave drawer can hold a 4-quart casserole or 20-ounce beverage. While it seems hard to believe, the drawer actually glides open and closed, preventing spills. There’s a beverage option that reheats coffee and tea to the perfect temperature. There is also a warm feature, which keeps food warm for up to 30-minutes.
Some of the last items to be installed were the wine refrigerator and refrigerator—and they were worth the wait! I love that there is so much room in the refrigerator and that having an undercounter wine chiller frees up space for food. What I appreciate about the Hestan 36” refrigerator with bottom-mount freezer is that it delivers exceptional food preservation, customizable storage and deeper capacity. The EvenFlow Air Circulating Technology™ consists of independent ventilation for each compartment and provides uniform and precise temperature control. When paired with the Hestan wine chiller, it creates the ultimate culinary cold storage system.
Another feature I am celebrating is that the refrigerator drawers and bins have a soft close feature. The drawers are bead-blasted stainless steel refrigerator EverCrisp™ drawers that are antimicrobial and prevent the growth of microorganisms and the spreading of germs.
And to clean up all of this, the dishwasher was installed as the cherry on top! This dishwasher is so quiet that there is an LED display on the floor to show that the dishwasher is running. Check out the LED light reflecting in the image below.
There’s also a third rack which is customizable—just adjust for cookie sheets and utensils or move it to make room for bigger pots and pans.
Two items I wasn’t expecting but decided to add during our renovation was a gold and brass barn door to provide a noise buffer when working at home and a Zip Water fixture that eliminates the need to purchase sparkling water in the can or bottle. I mention this in case you are in the renovation process. Every time I go through it, I have the opportunity to add in something special that supports our lifestyle and maybe wasn’t originally planned.
