Thanksgiving Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing

Celebrate the season with these delightful Thanksgiving-themed sugar cookies.
Using Hestan’s OvenBond Half Sheet Pan and Mixing Bowls, you’ll have all the tools to create and decorate these charming cookies with ease!

Category: Dessert | Prep Time: 15-minutes | Cook Time: 10-minutes | Total Time: ~25-Minutes | Yield: 24 cookies

Ingredients – For the Cookies 

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Ingredients – For the Icing 

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp meringue powder
  • 5-6 tbsp water
  • Food coloring in autumn shades (orange, green, brown, etc.)

INSTRUCTIONS for the COOKIES

  1.  In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use seasonal cookie cutters (pumpkins, pie slices, etc.) to cut out shapes.
  4. Place cookies on the Hestan OvenBond Half Sheet Pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden.
  5. Let cookies cool completely before icing.

INSTRUCTIONS for the ICING

  1. In a Hestan Mixing Bowl, combine powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water. Mix until smooth, adjusting water as needed for desired consistency.
  2. Divide icing into bowls and tint with food coloring.
  3. Decorate cookies with a piping bag or small spatula for a festive Thanksgiving touch.
