Bienvenue à Paris!
We have just landed back home from a design-inspired adventure through the captivating streets of the City of Lights, where art, culture, and culinary delights intertwine. Embarking on a trip to the prestigious region of Champagne, we immersed ourselves in the sparkling world of two of our favorite champagne houses, Ruinart and Billecart-Salmon while discovering the enchantment of Paris from the centrally located Hotel Brighton.
Exploring the Champagne Region:
Our journey began in Reims, as we set our sights on the enchanting Champagne region, where the world’s finest sparkling wines are crafted. Our first stop was at the prestigious Maison Ruinart, the oldest of the champagne houses. We delved into their rich history and witnessed the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into every bottle. The cellars, adorned with vaulted ceilings and dimly lit by candlelight, revealed history from the 1700’s and created an awe-inspiring ambiance that further enhanced the magic of Ruinart.
Following our tasting we experienced lunch at Brasserie du Jardin in Les Crayeres, a true gastronomic delight. Set amidst the beautiful gardens of a renowned château, the brasserie offers a splendid dining experience with a menu showcasing the finest French cuisine (like prime rib for two presented tableside), making it a perfect choice for a memorable and indulgent lunch.
Continuing our journey through Champagne, we visited the esteemed Billecart-Salmon. We were charmed by their dedication to excellence and passion for creating exceptional champagne. Discovering the secrets of their cellars and witnessing the art of blending allowed us to experience results in exquisite flavors and effervescence. Billecart-
Our tasting experience was followed by an alfresco luncheon at Rotisserie Henry IV in Epernay with a visit to the iconic Avenue de Champagne. Savoring local cuisine in the charming outdoor setting and then exploring the world-famous avenue with its historic champagne houses is an unforgettable way to immerse yourself in the essence of this renowned wine region.
Indulging in Parisian Luxury:
Our journey continued by train to the exquisite Hotel Brighton on the Rue de Rivoli, a boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Paris with views of the Louvre, Tuileries and Eiffel Tour. From the moment we stepped through its doors, we were transported to a world impeccable hospitality. The hotel allowed us to embrace the allure of Parisian chic in the tastefully decorated rooms and relish in the hotel’s thoughtful amenities. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to the Dior Museum (La Galerie Dior), a magical celebration of haute couture. The elegance and dressmaker details on display left us spellbound. We found ourselves surrounded in a world of exquisite gowns, iconic accessories, and the fascinating history of the House of Dior. With lunch to follow at the delicious L’Avenue and champagne at Four Seasons George V, we felt like we were living in a Parisian fashion show in the “Golden Triangle”.
If you know me, you’ll understand that we simply couldn’t resist a visit to Ralph’s Paris, nestled in the heart of St. Germaine. This charming restaurant next door to the 5-story boutique exudes old-world charm with its iconic Ralph Lauren Home Collection décor and delectable American fare. We savored every bite of their mouthwatering dishes, which transported us to a bygone era of classic elegance.
There are several “don’t miss” shopping, bar hopping and scenic spots throughout the St. Germaine district and beyond. Bar Lipp touts historic visits from Hemingway, while the Jardin du Luxembourg showcases a beautiful botanical garden, Medici Fountain and museum. Cafe de Fiore is the perfect spot for coffee or wine and people watching and Le Relais d’Entrecote is an affordable, fun and delicious spot to enjoy their iconic steak frites dinner. If you want to find unique baubles all under one roof, shopping at Samartaine is a true fashion lover’s dream, where you can discover a curated selection of high-end designer pieces and accessories. This chic boutique offers a sophisticated shopping experience.
Soaking In Parisian Art and History:
Montmartre is a picturesque, charming neighborhood in Paris, known for its artistic heritage and iconic landmarks like the stunning Sacré-Cœur Basilica perched on a hill. As you stroll through its cobblestone streets, you’ll find cozy cafés, like La Maison Rose, boutique shops, and artistic inspiration around every corner. Don’t miss the chance to experience the romantic atmosphere and breathtaking views of the city from the steps of the Sacré-Cœur, making Montmartre a must-visit destination for any traveler in Paris.
Closer to the heart of Paris, Musee d’Orsay is a true gem among Paris’s world-renowned museums, housed in a beautifully converted Beaux-Arts railway station. Inside, you’ll discover a remarkable collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces, making it a cultural haven for art enthusiasts and a journey through the evolution of art in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Also, Les Colonnes de Buren or Les Deux Plateaux, is one of Paris’s most intriguing public art installations. If you are wandering around the Jardin Palais-Royal, it is definitely worth dropping by the outdoor area to playfully pose with the black and white stripe columns. And let’s not forget the Instagrammable Angelina Restaurant, a culinary gem that Parisians hold close to their hearts. The warm ambiance and tantalizing French cuisine made for an unforgettable breakfast indulgence. From hot chocolate to eggs and pastries, each bite was a symphony of flavors that left us craving for more.
Paris and Champagne offer a design-inspired escape that celebrates art, culture, and the joy of indulgence. With its timeless beauty and endless culinary and cultural treasures, Paris and Champagne are destinations that simply steal your heart. Until next time, au revoir!
